"conference" cinnamon rolls

My kids eyes light up when General Conference comes around.

I'd love to say it's mostly because they get to listen to hours of spiritual inspiration on television.

(Someday they'll join me in glee at that prospect...I LOVE can watch, listen or watch it HERE.)

But for now I think that light in their eyes comes particularly from this knowledge:

In our family conference = cinnamon rolls.

I love the ones we make cause they're quick and you don't have to waste time with letting them rise two times like most recipes.

And I have Bobette to thank for that.

I don't know who Bobette is, but her name is on the recipe, so thank you Bobette!

I've had a few people ask for the recipe so here you go:

2 cubes of butter (1 cup)
2 c. milk
1/2 c. tap-hot water
2 heaping tbs. yeast
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
7 c. flour
1 egg, beaten
brown sugar (for sprinkling on the dough before rolling...I use between 1/4 and a 1/2 cup)
cinnamon (about 2 tsp.)

Dissolve yeast and the warm water, set aside. Melt butter in microwave. Warm milk in microwave. Combine butter and milk. Add the yeast to the milk mixture until well mixed. Add the beaten egg.

Slowly add the remaining ingredients and mix until dough separates from the bowl. Knead the dough for two minutes on low speed.

Let the dough rise (45 min-1 hour).

 Roll out into two rectangles. Butter dough and sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins (optional...I don't do raisins).
Roll up and slice through with dental floss (works so great, just put it around the outside of the roll, cross it over on top and pull it tight). 

Place on cookie sheet with a little room for growth in the oven.

Bake at 350 for 15 minutes (nope, you don't even have to have them rise again).

Frost with butter-cream frosting:

1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 c. powdered sugar
3-4 tbs. half and half (I just use milk)

Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Slowly add half and half (or milk), while beating until you get a smooth, spreadable consistency.

  3. Let me get this straight: after buttering the rectangles and sprinkling w/ brown sugar and cinnamon, you roll the up and slice them, then put them straight into the oven with no rising at all? Hooray! Cinnamon rolls are one of my favorite treats ever and I never make them because they are too the consuming. No longer! Thanks!

  6. Mmmm, we're at the Saskatoon airport drooling over these cinnamon rolls! We're waiting for a flight with nothing but vending machines surrounding us that only take Canadian dollars. Mmmm what we would give for one of those cinnamon rolls! See you tonight!

    Your cinnamon rolls look like they would be fantabulous, but you have to go to my blog and check out the recipe I posted for 10 second cinnamon rolls. Seriously....they are so easy I got up and made them in 30 minutes for my kiddos for breakfast this morning. Old fashioned, homemade are always best, but these other ones are great if you don't have a lot of time.

  10. I love cooking breakfast treats for the kids on the weekend. I am going to give these cinnamon rolls a try as they look super easy and if your crew devours them, I am sure my kids will as well :)

  11. Made them this morning. FABULOUS! I used bread flower so they were extra fluffy. Started the dough at 7 am and was eating the first batch at 8:30. Made 36 rolls 1 - 1 1/2 inches wide (3 pans). I think I ate an entire pan single-handedly.

  14. I made these today for Sunday Conference. They turned out amazing!! I am not a bread maker - somehow I always mess it up, and it never works. I've tried making Cinnamon Rolls for years and they've never worked. These worked! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. :)

  15. Thanks for the recipe! They turned out great! My family went nuts over them! Perfect conference treat. Oh--and how about the possibility of our 15 year-old sons going out on their missions a year earlier than we expected? Crazy but so cool and exciting!

  16. Thank you so much for this recipe! I've tried at least 3 or 4 different recipes and this is the perfect one for me! Light and fluffy and less time than all the rest, rising just once! Plus I love using just one baking sheet for all these rolls! I like a little cream cheese in my frosting so I added a bit of it but otherwise a perfect recipe!! thank you!
