a motherhood retreat in the desert

One of my goals with this blog (along with keeping a family record, giving me an avenue to share thoughts, and helping me be deliberate in what I do as a mother) is to promote the power in motherhood. I have realized that the good things we do as mothers can have a positive ripple-effect if we share them with others. One very sweet girl at the last Time Out for Women came up to me and one of the nicest compliments ever when she told me that this blog "makes motherhood 'cool'" and I have carried that close to my heart ever since. Motherhood is the most important "career" in the world and if we can popularize how rewarding it is then we can change families for the better.

I know I say it all the time, but with Motherhood comes a power that can change lives. It is a beautiful thing. As mothers we have the opportunity to help shape the little souls in our care and although that is a daunting and sometimes thankless task, it is exhilarating at the same time.

Ever since I was named to represent other mothers as the National Young Mother of the Year (back here) I have been pondering what in the world to do to fully honor that stewardship. I have done a few interviews and speeches, but I figured that what would honor motherhood the very most is to help empower mothers by co-hosting a Power of Moms Motherhood Retreat. The American Mothers Inc. has pretty much the same goals as Power of Moms does and together the two organizations can be a powerful force to be reckoned with.

So together we are putting on a retreat here in the desert on November 19th which I'm really excited about. Click here for more details.

(If anyone has any other great ideas to honor this stewardship please send them on over!)

We also have a state convention for our chapter of American Mothers this Saturday from 10-12 where I will be speaking along with the Mother of the Year from our state. I know it's a crazy time of year, but if you're local and would like to attend please let me know.

  8. That girl was right. I'm not a mother (yet... or anytime very soon) but I still love to read your blog, because it inspires me to think about the things i would like to do as a mother down the road as well as the way I was raised and how awesome my Mama is. Your love for your family is so evident and like a moth to the flame (cliche, but true) I just have to come and soak it up.

  9. So wonderful getting to meet you last weekend at TOFW! You are such an inspiration and your countenance just beams all around you! Not to mention you have a beautiful spirit that matches your outside beauty! Thanks for helping me tweak my chaotic time of day when I pick up my 4 kids from school. I am looking forward to finding holiness at that time of day!
